What is the objective of the ICT in Culture survey?
To produce indicators and statistics that allow representing and understanding the access, adoption, and appropriation of information and communication technologies (ICT) by Brazilian cultural facilities. It also aims to investigate the impacts of ICT on the internal work of institutions and their relationship with their audiences.
What is the importance of the survey?
The survey contributes to the development of the Internet in Brazil and to the construction of public policies related to the use of technologies by Brazilian cultural equipment, aiming to expand their reach and promote access to culture.
Who supports the survey?
The survey has the institutional support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Brazilian Ministry of Culture (MinC), and its affiliated entities, such as the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram) and the National Film Agency (Ancine), as well as support from the National Archives Council (Conarq), which is affiliated with the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI). The initiative is also supported by experts affiliated with civil society organizations and important academic institutions.
Who is the target audience of the survey?
The interviews are conducted with managers of cultural facilities across the country, including archives, listed properties, libraries, cinemas, museums, cultural points, and theaters.
How is the survey conducted?
The survey is conducted by telephone through a structured questionnaire, developed to understand the profile of the institutions, their presence on the Internet, access to ICT, and the use of these technologies in their internal operational routine, in the relationship with their audiences, and in the formation of digital collections.
The interviews are conducted by researchers from Ipec, the research institute responsible for collecting the information.
What happens to the information provided to the interviewer?
The responses of each interviewee are grouped with those of other survey participants to build statistics for the entire country. Procedures are adopted to anonymize each respondent, meaning that specific information about each cultural equipment and the respondent and the institution they represent are never disclosed or identified.
Ipsos-Ipec, the company responsible for data collection, has the international ISO 20252 certification, which mandates the confidentiality of all survey respondents' data.
