Debate with Experts Highlights Publication Launch on Childhood and Adolescence in the Digital Age
Organized by Cetic.br | NIC.br in partnership with CEPAL and the Kids Online Network, the event will present a comparative report of the Kids Online studies in Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, and Uruguay
The objective is to promote reflections to guide public policies aimed at children and young people in a context increasingly marked by the daily presence of technology. In general terms, this is the purpose of the publication "Childhood and Adolescence in the Digital Age - A Comparative Report of the Kids Online Studies in Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, and Uruguay," whose Portuguese version will be launched on December 2, in a webinar conducted by the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br) of the Brazilian Network Information Center (NIC.br), together with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL) and the Latin America Kids Online Network.
Based on the results presented in this compilation of surveys, the challenges existing today, accentuated by the period of social distancing, will be discussed, along with strategies enabling new generations to fully participate in social life, taking advantage of opportunities and reducing risks of their online experiences.
“The structural inequalities that mark Latin America restrict the online opportunities of a significant portion of the population in the region's countries, especially children and adolescents. The report focuses on future generations, pointing out evidence of how public policies can ensure digital inclusion and the promotion of the rights of children and adolescents, a debate that became even more necessary with the COVID-19 pandemic," comments Alexandre Barbosa, manager of Cetic.br.
The webinar will feature the participation of renowned national and international experts: Cristóbal Cobo (World Bank), Sonia Livingston (London School of Economics and Political Science), Daniela Trucco (CEPAL), Fabio Senne (Cetic.br|NIC.br), Alejandra Trossero, (UNICEF-LACRO), Guilherme Canela (UNESCO), Ana Laura Martínez (Cetic.br | NIC.br), Patricio Cabello (University of Chile), and Matías Dodel (Catholic University of Uruguay).
