Debate on diversity and technology opens for registration

Notas 29 MAI 2019

Meeting of CPF Sesc, Cetic.br/NIC.br and PUC-SP will be held on June 18 in São Paulo

Reflections and debates on diversity in digital culture will be presented on June 18, Tuesday, starting at 10 am, at CPF-Sesc. This will be the third meeting of 2019 in the "Culture, education, and technologies in debate" series, organized by the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br) of the Brazilian Network Information Center (NIC.br), in partnership with Sesc São Paulo and the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP). To participate, registration is required on the CPF Sesc page or at Sesc units.

With the presence of professors Maria Antonieta Antonacci and Fernando Almeida from PUC-SP, and Rafael Evangelista from Unicamp, the meeting will discuss diversity, from various representations and technologies that broaden or restrict the access of social groups and individuals to the production and dissemination of cultural and educational goods on the Internet.

Rafael Evangelista will discuss how the Internet, as an open network to freedom and diversity of expressions, has become a privileged vehicle for the consolidation of certain patterns, especially given the nature of online video and music platforms and the commercial logic that governs them. Moderated by Fernando Almeida, the meeting will also feature a presentation by Maria Antonieta Antonacci, who will highlight, among other issues, the need for cultural and educational policies and different channels of renewal to expand knowledge about the history of Africa, African cultures, Afro-Brazilian and indigenous populations.

Cycle of Dialogues

Organized by Cetic.br/NIC.br, CPF Sesc, and PUC-SP, the "Culture, education, and technologies in debate" series has already promoted two meetings in 2019 to deepen reflection on strategic aspects at the interface between culture, education, and technology.

The first included a panel discussion, an international guest conference, and the launch of the TIC Culture 2018 survey. Danilo Santos de Miranda (regional director of Sesc São Paulo), Demi Getschko (CEO of NIC.br), Maria Amalia Pie Abib Andery (rector of PUC-SP), and Adriana Couto (journalist and presenter of the Metrópolis program from TV Cultura) discussed the opportunities and risks of a connected world. French philosopher and hypermodernity theorist Gilles Lipovetsky, moderated by journalist Bianca Santana, gave the conference "The new consumer society: are we happier?".

To discuss cultural production and technology, the series gathered George Yúdice (professor at the University of Miami) and Eliane Costa (MBA Coordinator at Fundação Getúlio Vargas) in its second meeting of the year, moderated by Mauricio Trindade (assistant manager of CPF-Sesc).

In 2018, the "Culture, education, and technologies in debate" series promoted meetings on the topics "Digital Culture: where are we and where are we going?"; "Knowledge, skills and curriculum in an information and knowledge society" and "Public educational and cultural policies: trajectories and perspectives", which resulted in the publication "Culture, education, and technologies in debate", available at: https://cetic.br/publicacao/cultura-educacao-e-tecnologias-em-debate/.
