CGI.br publishes book analyzing Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Brazil

Releases 25 MAI 2010

Work will be presented during Conip 2010, the Congress of Information Technology and Innovation in Public Management which takes place in São Paulo

The Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) will launch the book “Survey on the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Brazil 2009” during Conip 2010, the Congress of Information Technology and Innovation in Public Management. The publication will be presented on May 26, at 12 p.m., at the Fecomercio Event Center, in São Paulo.

The publication compiles the ICT Households and ICT Enterprises 2009 surveys, providing a complete overview of the ownership and use of computers, the Internet, and other types of technologies by companies and end users. The survey covers various aspects related to ICTs such as access to equipment, security, communication, electronic government, user skills, access locations, e-commerce, barriers to use, among others.

“Our survey is conducted with a very diverse sample and accurately reflects the Brazilian reality and the evolution of the ICT landscape in recent years,” says Alexandre Barbosa, manager of the Center for Studies on Information and Communication Technologies (CETIC.br).

More than 22 thousand households from urban and rural areas were mapped, and around four thousand companies across the country were interviewed. The book brings together the two surveys, with analyses, graphs, and comparisons.

“The publication is of utmost importance for all those interested in the evolution of Information and Communication Technologies in Brazil, especially scholars, those responsible for public policy creation, academic research development, and also private sector companies,” says Barbosa.
