Cetic.br launches TIC Kids Online Brazil 2023 publication
Besides the study's indicators, the book presents the survey methodology, analysis of results, and articles written by specialists from different areas; the material can be accessed for free
The Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br) launched this Friday (13) the TIC Kids Online Brazil 2023 publication, which addresses Internet use by children and adolescents in the country. Besides indicators, the book includes a methodological and data collection report, analysis of results, and articles produced by specialists from various fields on topics related to the survey, such as safe use and protection of children and adolescents' information in the digital environment.
Conducted since 2012, the TIC Kids Online Brazil has as its main objective to understand how Brazilians aged 9 to 17 use the Internet and how they deal with the risks and opportunities arising from this practice. The 2023 edition highlighted the increasingly frequent online participation of this population - 95% are Internet users, which corresponds to about 25 million people - and the anticipation of the first access to the network, a scenario that intensifies challenges to ensure the privacy and security of this segment of the country's inhabitants.
Another highlight was the massive use of cell phones as an access device (97%), being the sole means of Internet connection for 20% of interviewees in general and for 38% of those in classes DE, a limitation that can restrict benefits and increase inequalities among individuals in different socioeconomic contexts.
The 10th edition of TIC Kids Online Brazil conducted face-to-face interviews with 2,704 children and adolescents, as well as their parents or guardians, throughout the national territory. The interviews took place between March and July 2023. The survey is part of a range of surveys conducted by Cetic.br, which for almost two decades has produced indicators on access, use, and appropriation of Information and Communication Technologies in various segments of society. The data have served as input for the design and monitoring of public policies, helping to understand the still existing digital inequalities.
The Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society is a department of the Brazilian Network Information Center (NIC.br), which is linked to the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br).
